Decline of only 10 percent in 2020 for car manufacturers in Romania

The car production in Romania recorded a 10% decline in 2020 compared to the previous year. In the last months of the year, the two car factories, from Mioveni and Craiova, increased their production in the context of the recovery of the demand in the auto market.

Romania produced 438.107 cars in 2020 through its two factories, Dacia and Ford. This is 10.6% less compared to the 490.412 cars produced in 2019, when the Romanian car industry reported an all-time high production volume.

Dacia factory from Mioveni produced 259.099 new cars, a 25% decline from the last year numbers (349.466 cars). The most-produced car model in Romania in 2020 was Dacia Duster, with 183.286 units, a decline of over 30% from 2019. which represents almost 80.000 cars.

On the other hand, the production at Ford's factory in Craiova reported a record production, 179.008 Puma and EcoSport cars, up about 40.000 units(27%), thanks to the new model Puma.

The other car models produced were Dacia Sandero, with 36.416 units (up 1.300 units compared to 2019), Dacia Logan, with 30.834 units (a decrease of 4.000 units), and Logan MCV, with only 8.663 units.

In December, Dacia and Ford manufactured 33.408 cars, 18.804 at Mioveni and 14.604 at Craiova.

The two car manufacturers reported record production in September last year, of 57.846 cars, due to the auto market recovery in Europe, but the demand was lower in the next months until the end of the year.
